Artist Profile: Neil Kapit

White person with dark hair, wearing gray T-shirt

Neil Kapit (he/him, they/them) is a bisexual cartoonist and educator based on the Eastside. He is the creator of the webcomic “The Imp and Her Knight.”

“Never really felt like I fit anywhere. Certainly the bigger part of that was my neurology, and while an autism spectrum diagnosis in early adulthood helped explain it, it didn’t change anything. It did, however, make me wonder what other spectrums of human experience they were, and in what other areas there were gradations rather than rigid binaries. I eventually settled on bisexual as my identity, because that seemed the best fit — still not an exact one, but useful language.

All this is to say, I don’t feel like I belong in most places. But finding other people with similar experiences is helping.”

Queer Figures Drawn

Digital art

Going to the Queer Figure Drawing group has been a godsend. I’ve always been welcomed and I’ve always found the place supportive and welcoming. I can draw, I can pose for drawing, I can encourage others and receive encouragement back. I’ve wanted to do a piece compiling some of my drawings for a while now, as a tribute to what I’ve learned and a thank you to the community there. These were digitally painted over some of the sketches I did in the figure drawing sessions, with likenesses erased and colors added in appropriate rainbows.
