Artist Profile: Badger

cat skulled anthro character with a golden halo

Badger (they/them) is a disabled nonbinary person who grew up in the PNW, where they spent a majority of their childhood outside in the woods – barefoot preferably – learning to track animals, identify plants, and other survival skills from local experts. They learned how to sketch native flora and fauna and, with the encouragement of their very artistic mom, experimented with various kinds of art media.

They’re currently learning to work with alcohol markers and use their art to explore themes of gender expression, spirituality, and body neutrality/acceptance

“Saint felis catus is the patron saint of cat wand toys, afternoon naps, and finding all the bugs in your house. The saint reminds us to embrace the smaller, sometimes overlooked, joys in life. It’s said that when pet cats stare at the ceiling or into corners, they are listening to Saint felis catus, and people will often get their cats blessed at temples dedicated to this saint.“

“Saint vulpes vulpes cascadensis is the patron saint of laughter. This depiction is highlighting a specific type: the carefree laughter in the face of your enemies or those who try to make you feel small. This saint encourages us to live authentically and to resist letting others put you in a box. Blackberries and salmon berries are popular offerings for this saint.“
